There's something for everyone at Mathevies, elevated above the Dordogne valley among its green rolling hills and meandering river.

Our ethos is based on the philosophy “Small is beautiful” by E.F. Schumacher with the central message ‘Camping as if people matter’.

For the Mathevies team that means providing a holiday where people come first in a tranquil, family friendly environment, lively enough to be convivial but small enough for everyone to matter.

Now more than ever, holiday makers crave to be outdoors! The sun on one’s back, a soft evening breeze, the life affirming beauty of the Dordogne. It’s here waiting.

Mathevies camping pitches are spacious and positioned to make sure nobody feels crowded together. Situated in a beautiful area of South-West France, on the top of a hill the site is surrounded by forest and rolling farmland.

While the Cosy Nook, the intimate focal point of Mathevies sparkles with laughter and cameraderie as new friends are made. A step outside will find you experiencing the quiet of a day in the Dordogne with nothing to disturb the view except perhaps a Falcon circling its prey in a cloudless sky.

Guests can relax. We will take care of the rest. When you book your holiday, you will receive a handy Welcome Pack taking you through the practicalities of life on site and tips off site allowing you to plan like never before.

We look forward to welcoming you to our human scale campsite in the heart of the Dordogne valley.

Conscious Camping – here are some of our initiatives to help Mathevies run more sustainably:

Stop taps help us conserve water.

We compost and wood chip all garden cuttings back into the site.

We use organic weedkillers (not glyphosates).

Bio gas water heating.

We only sell souvenirs from Soft Power Education – a non-profit registered charity producing craft toys and items made by rural women in Uganda. They receive a generous local wage for their work and any profits are ploughed back into the group to buy new materials and train more women.

Nearer to home, we support local enterprises buying wine, beer and bread from family run businesses in the Dordogne.

We’ve gone paperless by emailing all invoices and PDF Welcome Packs.

Avoiding single use plastics! Bring your own plates for the food trucks, mugs for take away coffees and bags for bread.

We are in the process of installing electric car charging points.
