Mathevies is a small, family-friendly four star campsite in the heart of the Dordogne valley. If you are looking for a bespoke and independent boutique-style camping, come and visit us.

General questions

  • When do bookings begin?

    • We start taking bookings in the second week of January for the upcoming season.

       

  • What are the office hours?

    • The reception is open from 9am – 12.30pm & 2.30pm – 6.30pm.

      Please adhere to your check-in and check-out times.

  • Can I order fresh bread for breakfast?

    • Yes, pre-order your baguettes and croissants from the bar for next day delivery.

  • When is food served?

    • Dinner is available on the terrace 6pm – 9pm from our visiting food trucks serving a selection of local and world food.

      The café serves coffee, tea, cold drinks, ice-creams and fries throughout the day.

       

  • Where are the shops?

    • Sainte Nathalène – 1km to the local bar & restaurant.

      Proissans – 3km to a butcher, patisserie, restaurant and general conveniences.

      Sarlat – 7km to all major supermarkets, restaurants, shops etc.

      Carlux – 7km to mini-market, bakery, post office, bar/restaurant.

  • Is there WIFI at the campsite?

    • Yes, we have free wifi throughout the campsite.

      For those who require a faster connection there are paid options available.

  • Tourist Tax

    • Tourist and eco taxes are indicated on your invoice.

  • Is the water safe for drinking?

    • Yes, all water on the site is drinkable.

  • What months are the swimming pools open?

    • The pools are open when the campsite is open. You can swim from 9.30am to 9pm. They are not heated.

      There are no restrictions on wearing board shorts in the pool.

      Inflatables are not allowed.

  • Are barbecues permitted on the campsite?

    • Yes, gas and charcoal barbecues are allowed on the campsite.

      Electric barbecues and campfires directly on the grass are not permitted.

      Barbecue hire and picnic tables may be hired in advance.

  • Are dogs allowed?

    • Yes, we welcome vaccinated dogs.

      Dogs must be kept on leads and always accompanied.

      A valid vaccination certificate is compulsory by French law. We can help with UK guests who must meet the Pet Travel Scheme regulations.

  • Where are the nearest natural swimming spots?

    • Beautiful swimming spots are located on the banks of the Dordogne. Saint-Julien-de-Lampon (6km) and Vitrac (16km) both have beaches and picnic areas.

      Grolegac Lake is around 16km away and has a sandy beach and playground. Tamnies lake is nearby and has an inflatable ‘It’s a Knockout’ style course for children 6yrs and over.

  • Where can I buy wine?

    • Special rates on Bordeaux and St Emilion are offered in cases of six when bought at the campsite.

      Ophorus tours offer wine tours of the famous Bordeaux and St Emilion chateaux.

      Wine can also be bought at Julien de Savignac, a Sarlat based cooperative.

  • What about quiet time & camping etiquette?

    • Between 11pm and 8am guests are asked to keep noise levels respectfully low.

      Please avoid cutting through other people’s pitches.

       

  • Can you recommend a place to stop en-route to Mathevies

  • Are visitors allowed?

    • Please register all guests at time of arrival. There is a charge of 5€ per visitor.

Camping questions

  • Can I reserve a particular pitch type?

    • We are unable to guarantee particular pitch choice however every effort will be made to allocate you a preferred pitch type.

      Acceptance of a booking is not conditional on the allocation of a specific pitch.

  • When do I need to pay my balance?

    • A deposit of 50% of the total will be requested to confirm your booking.

      The balance must then be settled 42 days prior to your arrival. Please make a note of the date as we don’t send out reminders.

  • What are the arrival and departure times?

    • Check-in: from 2.30pm – 8pm.

      Check-out: Your pitch must be vacated no later than 12.30pm.

       

  • Can I arrive late at night or early in the morning?

    • In order to protect the comfort and tranquility of the site, camping arrivals will not be permitted before 9am or after dark.

      Early morning departures before 7.30am are not permitted.

  • I'm towing a caravan / large rig. What's the best route to Mathevies?

    • From A20 take exit 55 (SP Sarlat/Soulliac) When in Soulliac take care and look for tight RH turn (sign posted D703 & Carlux). Following river on your left continue into Rouffillac. In Rouffillac turn right at wide open junction onto D61 (Carlux). In Carlux turn left onto D47B (St Nathalene). Take care vicinity is narrow, downhill and winding. In St Nathalene take the first right (tight turn) after the hotel (l’Escale) then bear right (sign posted Jardins d’Eyrignac)). In just under a mile turn left (campsite is signed). At small crossroads bear right and follow the narrow track to the site. If approaching from Sarlat use the D47 to St Nathalene and turn left just before the hotel (l’Escale). Do not follow Sat Nav directions that do not use the D47.

  • Do you offer electricity hookups?

    • Yes every pitch has a electricity hookup (EHU).

      Please ensure you come prepared. You will need to bring a European 3 pin 10AMP adapter plug and your own extension lead. We would recommend purchasing leads and adapters before you travel. You may hire an adaptor or extension lead in advance if needed.

       

  • Can I rent a fridge?

    • Yes, fridge hire is available.

      When hiring a fridge remember to bring French to UK adapters if arriving from the UK, so that you can hook up the European fridge to your UK sockets if necessary. You can use the EHU for any other electrical devices on your pitch.

      In order to make your check-in easier, a security deposit will be requested by email 10 days before the start of your stay.

      This is carried out online via the secure platform run by our partner Swikly, for an amount of 100€ (for camping fridge hire).

      This deposit is pre-authorised on your bank card and is not debited from your account.

      The full amount of this deposit will be refunded to you, at the latest 3 days after your departure, if the camping fridge has been left in a clean condition without damage.

  • Can I refreeze my freezer packs?

    • Yes, there is a freezer next to the sanitary block for water packs. Please clearly label your ice blocks to avoid mix-ups.

  • Do you exchange gas bottles?

    • It is not possible to exchange gas bottles on the campsite however they may be exchanged at any of the major supermarkets in Sarlat.

  • Is there a chemical toilet?

    • Yes, the chemical toilet and grey water disposal area is located beside the sanitary block. Please use environmentally sustainable chemicals.

ACCOMMODATION QUESTIONS

  • When do I need to pay my balance?

    • A deposit of 50% of the total will be requested to confirm your booking.

      The balance must then be settled 42 days prior to your arrival. Please make a note of the date as we don’t send out reminders.

  • What are the arrival and departure times?

    • Check-in: 4pm – 8pm. The chalets and gîtes go through a rigorous cleaning and airing process between guests. As such please understand that your accommodation will only be available from 4pm.

      Check-out: Please make sure you are checked out by 10:00am.

       

  • Can I arrive late at night or early in the morning?

    • In order to protect the peace and tranquility of the site, arrivals will not be permitted before 9am or after 8pm.

      Early morning departures before 7.30am are not permitted.

  • What equipment is supplied with the accommodation?

    • Please see the inventory for information on what is provided in the accommodation. The kitchen is fully equipped and (square) pillows and blankets are provided.

      In order to make your check-in easier, a security deposit will be requested by email 10 days before the start of your stay. This is carried out online via the secure platform run by our partner Swikly, for an amount of €200 (for rental accommodation). This deposit is pre-authorised on your bank card and is not debited from your account.

      The full amount of this deposit will be refunded to you, at the latest 3 days after your departure, if the accommodation has been left intact and in a clean condition.

  • What bedding is provided in the chalets/gite/mobile homes?

    • Pillows (square) and duvet blankets are supplied. Bring your own pillowcases, fitted sheets and quilt covers. Towels are not provided with the accommodation.

      Please bring your own linen and towels or hire ours in advance.

  • Is the accommodation air-conditioned?

    • No, however the temperature in the evenings drops at night, even in the height of summer.
